The Xiangqui Vase is a hand-built ceramic vessel designed to be viewed in the round. A continuous hand-drawn scene wraps around the form, revealing different moments as the vase is turned. One side shows a Xiangqi game in progress, while another shifts to a group gathered around a table.
Rather than a single fixed image, the vase works through a 360 narrative. Each angle offers a new part of the scene, encouraging movement and interaction with the object. The drawings are carved directly into the surface, allowing the white clay to come through the deep blue underglaze, keeping the linework simple and direct.
