Upside Down

Upside Down is a hand-built ceramic vase that plays with perception and balance. Its asymmetrical form appears to shift depending on the angle, reading as full and grounded from one side, and narrow and elongated from another. The walls are intentionally thin, giving the piece a paper-like quality that contrasts with the weight of the material.

Black clay, blue underglaze

Techniques

The vase is made from black clay and finished with a deep blue glaze. A hand-carved botanical motif is etched into the surface, allowing the dark clay to break through the colour.
