Paper Vase
2023
Paper Vase is conceived to resemble a folded sheet rather than a traditional ceramic vessel. Built from red clay and finished in black slip, its thin, asymmetric profile and narrow opening give the impression of something light, delicate, and easily bent. The surface is carved through the black slip so that both field and line expose the clay beneath, creating botanical forms that feel drawn rather than applied. Fragile in appearance and intentionally understated, the vase prioritises lightness and silhouette, sitting somewhere between object, drawing, and form.

Techniques
The vase was constructed from clay slabs, bent and assembled using coil joins. Black slip was applied to the surface and carved to reveal the red clay body beneath. The piece was left unglazed to maintain a raw, paper-like texture.
