Blue Dragon
2024
Hand-built in a rounded amphora form, the vase is finished in a deep cobalt underglaze and engraved with a coiling dragon that wraps the vessel’s body. The motif is carved directly into the surface, allowing the pale clay to surface through the blue, creating a rhythmic contrast of line and ground. Long associated with power, protection, and transformation in Chinese iconography, the dragon here is reduced to movement and contour, shifting a mythical figure into a restrained, contemporary study of balance and flow.
