Aquarium
2025
Hand-built in a rounded amphora form, Aquarium is finished in a deep cobalt underglaze and engraved with circling koi.The fish are carved directly into the surface so the pale clay line emerges against the blue. Birds and fish are a long-standing iconography in Chinese ceramics, symbols of freedom, abundance, and good fortune. Here the motif is distilled to movement and contour, turning a classical subject into a quiet, contemporary study of form and flow.
Part of Fragments of Hong Kong, a series that gathers everyday scenes and objects from the city into tactile studies.
